English soccer top flight looks to major broadcast partner to enhance digital strategy
The Premier League is joining the Comcast NBCUniversal SportsTech Accelerator, providing resources and opportunities to early-stage sports technology startups that could benefit English soccer’s top flight in the future.
Since the Comcast NBCUniversal SportsTech Accelerator began in February 2021, the program has attracted interest from thousands of sports technology startups hoping to buck the odds and get selected. This year, more than 900 companies from 40 countries applied, and only 10 were chosen to participate.
The Premier League is now among the group the startups will gain access to. Jenna Kurath, Comcast’s vice president of startup partnerships and head of the SportsTech program, said the Premier League “has been on the wish list for a while,” particularly because about one-third of applicants to the program are from outside the U.S. and want to make a mark in the country.
